Sarah Emerson is a singer-songwriter from Seattle, now based in Newport Beach, California. She grew up writing poems and publishing them locally, following her grandmother Berta Emerson, also a songwriter. Her first song, "What Joy," was written for her church and spread well beyond it. She released her debut album in 2012 — self-written, produced with friends — and went on to play Seattle rooms including the Triple Door. Proceeds from the record built a dormitory for children in Uganda, where she continues to support orphan care.
